Round 13 Summary

January 16, 2018

First XI

The Ones hosted St Stephen’s Greythorn CC more or less for an afternoon tea. There was some play, just 26.2 overs. They won the toss and backed their bowlers in. We opened with Speedy and Captain Will and it wasn’t long before Will was whacking them around the ground. Unfortunately for Will he slashed at a wide one and was caught at gully. Speedy and Kavan batted together, in no time Kavan passing Speedy. But, Speedy was up for the challenge, increasing his strike rate with some cracking shots. We were on and off the field a few times before an early arvo tea to see what will happen. It didn’t look to be clearing so it was called with Speedy 39* and Kavan 46* and we were 1 for 113. Next week we play host to top side Ashburton Willows.

Second XI

The Twos managed to get a fair bit of play in, out at Myrtle v the Barnies. Welcome to Al Lithgow who played his first game at the club. We batted first with highlights being Pete Lithgow scoring 37 and international import JJ scoring 50*.  Looked like Chinny 24* and Al 7* batted well too considering it was raining the whole time. We set them 145 for the win.
Wolfy opened with JJ and Nav M. who managed to hit the spot and top of off first ball, 1 for 1. Wolfy somehow managed to swing a wet ball around a batsmens legs, nicely done. Eventually lightning struck the house next door and players were off, abandoned for safety reasons. Next week we’re off to play Burnley CYMS at their ground.

Note.

As finals are coming upon us, making selection decisions is going to get harder. Our club policy is to ensure we select those that have paid subs and train before anyone else. My suggestion, get to training and pay your subs as if we keep playing well, we’ll be looking at 2 sides on finals.

Wolfy talking strategy with Knotty on Saturday morning.
