New to Cricket

Never played cricket before? That is completely fine.

Balwyn Saints welcomes children trying cricket for the first time, as well as players who have played before.

For most children aged 8 and under, Woolworths Cricket Blast is the easiest place to start. Children aged 9 and over will usually be placed with the most suitable Junior or Girls team.

Woolworths Cricket Blast participants receive a Cricket Australia participant pack once registered, and new Junior & Girls team players receive a full playing uniform as part of registration.

The club provides shared cricket equipment for both Blast and team-based cricket, so families do not need to buy cricket equipment before joining.

Older girls may choose between mixed junior cricket and girls-only cricket depending on their age, experience and preferred starting point. Simply register under Girls Cricket, and we will work with you and your child to find the best fit.

We also offer a free Come & Try session for children who would like to have a go before registering. Please contact us before attending so we can confirm the session, time and location and let you know about any changes or cancellations.

• no registration required beforehand
• no previous cricket experience needed
• all equipment supplied
• join in for the full session

For children aged 9 and over, we will usually arrange for them to join the most suitable Junior or Girls team at training.

Every child is different. If an older child is very new to cricket, nervous about starting or would feel more comfortable trying Blast first, let us know and we can work out the best starting point together.
