Whether your child is picking up a bat for the first time or already loves cricket, there is a place for them at Balwyn Saints.

Our programs welcomes new and returning players and focuses on helping every child make friends, improve, contribute to their team and enjoy playing cricket.

Cricket Australia requires all registrations to go through the PlayHQ website. To register, you will need to log in to PlayHQ or create an account using one of the registration links below. Current fees, inclusions and any applicable sibling discounts are shown in PlayHQ during registration.

New to cricket?

Never played cricket before? That is completely fine. Not sure whether cricket is right for your child? Come along and have a go first.

Balwyn Saints welcomes children who are trying cricket for the first time as well as players who have played for several years.

Find the Right Program

Balwyn Saints provides junior cricket in Balwyn and North Balwyn for new and returning players of all abilities and backgrounds.

No previous cricket experience is needed, and we can help you choose the most suitable group for your child’s age, experience and confidence.

Children can start with Woolworths Cricket Blast, move into junior team cricket when they are ready, and stay connected with Balwyn Saints as they progress into senior cricket.

Woolworths Cricket Blast

Woolworths Cricket Blast is a fun, game-based introduction to cricket for girls and boys typically aged 5 to 8, including children who are not quite ready to move into Under 10s team cricket.

Each one-hour session is built around fun, active games so children spend plenty of time moving, playing and having a go. Along the way they build basic cricket skills, teamwork and confidence, while making new friends.

When: Saturdays, 9:00–10:00am

Where: Myrtle Park, North Balwyn

Dates for the upcoming season are:

Saturday 30 January
Saturday 6 February
Saturday 13 February

A minimum of 8 sessions will be run. A backup session will be held on Saturday 6 March if needed due to weather cancellations.

What children can expect

Blast participants will:

learn batting, bowling, catching and throwing through games
take part in small-group activities so everyone gets involved
build confidence, teamwork and coordination
make new friends
receive a Cricket Australia participant pack
use equipment supplied during the sessions

Parents and carers are encouraged to join in and help with activities where possible.

Families are welcome to stay afterwards for a BBQ and a relaxed catch-up.

Girls Competition

Balwyn Saints offers girls-only cricket for girls who are brand new to cricket as well as those who have played before.

Our girls program provides a welcoming team environment where players can develop their skills, build confidence, make friends and enjoy playing cricket.

Games are played on Wednesday evenings, with competition formats and schedules confirmed before the season starts in early October.

Players can expect:

supportive coaching suited to their age and experience
opportunities to develop batting, bowling and fielding
regular training and matches
a welcoming team environment
a focus on enjoyment, confidence and belonging

Depending on their age and experience, girls may also be suited to Woolworths Cricket Blast or mixed junior cricket. We are happy to help families choose the best option.

Under 10s

Under 10 cricket is for girls and boys who are not yet 10 years of age as at 1 September of the season.

It provides a friendly and low-pressure introduction to team cricket. Modified rules help children learn the game while focusing on participation, skill development and enjoyment rather than results.

Games are played on Saturday mornings, with schedules confirmed before the season starts in early October.

Players can expect:

age-appropriate coaching
opportunities to bat, bowl and field every week
modified games designed for younger players
a supportive introduction to team cricket
an emphasis on participation, learning and fun

Under 12s

Under 12 cricket is for girls and boys who are not yet 12 years of age as at 1 September of the season.

It helps players continue developing their skills while learning more about teamwork, match situations and the wider game.

Games are played on Saturday mornings, with schedules confirmed before the season starts in early October.

Players can expect:

structured and age-appropriate coaching
regular opportunities to bat, bowl and field
an emphasis on participation, learning and fun
supportive coaches and volunteers
the chance to build confidence and friendships

Under 14s

Under 14 cricket is for players who are not yet 14 years of age as at 1 September of the season.

Players continue developing their individual skills and understanding of team cricket in a supportive club environment.

Games are played on Friday evenings, with competition formats and schedules confirmed before the season starts in early October.

Players can expect:

structured coaching and training
skill development and match preparation
opportunities to contribute with bat, ball and in the field
an emphasis on participation, learning and fun
support for new and experienced players

Under 16s

Under 16 cricket is for players who are not yet 16 years of age as at 1 September of the season.

The program supports players as they develop more advanced skills, greater match awareness and stronger connections with their teammates and club.

Games are played on Friday evenings, with competition formats and schedules confirmed before the season starts in early October.

Players can expect:

structured coaching and training
continued batting, bowling and fielding development
regular team cricket
opportunities to take greater responsibility within the team
support from coaches and club volunteers
