Number 1 Movie: Yes Man
The Panthers were up against a foundation ECA club STC playing at a ground which is the pitch and putt equivalent of a cricket ground AKA Nettleton Park.
Winning the toss the decision to bowl was easy having an all-star bowling line up consisting of no less than 5 bowlers who have won bowling averages for club and or association.
These blokes got hit for 293 from the allotted 40 overs (7.325 run rate).
Whilst any 3 figure chase intimidates NBCCC we were surprisingly confident in chasing 293 especially with our noted hard hitting top order of Speedy, Scotty P and Harry.
Opening up with Seed and Harry and the boys got us off to a reasonable start with a run a ball 29 for the first wicket before Seeds stumps went cartwheeling.
Harry decided to light it making a quick fire 46 from 35.
However despite the great start we had a run rate issues Scotty P decided to slow the tempo and dot ball it up, it is still discussed to this day what was going on in Scotty’s mind that day the popular theories follow.
- Playing for red ink
- Double agent for STC
- Batting average hunting
- So hopped up on Red Bull and Cointreau had no idea what was going on
Pendo wasted no time and top scored before being dismissed with 57 from 46 and the two boys from Marcellin compiled a respectable 94 from 78 balls
In the 33rd screams of joy rang out in the suburb of Glen Iris followed by gasps of disappointment. Interestingly it was NBCCC celebrating as Scotty walked back to the pavilion crossing paths with JKL.
So Blacky and JKL were at the crease batting together, few words are required 46 from 24 is all you really need to know about the partnership both back in the pavilion leaving 40 from 35.
At the crease were two contrasting blokes, one a heavy metal loving head banging 16 year old the other a 44 year old who loves Enrique Iglesias. The only thing the two had in common is neither were renowned big hitters.
Despite only hitting 10 sixes in his long career Govey hit a 6 to get off the mark and the two made the chase look easy with Junior Prowse hitting a couple of his own ending up on 25* from 14 balls.
Fittingly, Govey hit a 6 to win the match.
Training is indoors this Sunday at 10:30pm – get down to Maddocks in Blackburn for a bowl and a hit!
